Swiss City Turns Trash Bins Into Opportunities for Street Ball

Having spent a lot of money over the past decade on larger trash bins and beefed up public cleaning crews, the city of Lucerne, Switzerland still had a problem with litter, and increasing services and infrastructure wasn't making much of a difference. So they launched an interesting strategy, part alternate use, part intervention, all genius: make disposing of litter a game.

With a few carefully placed stickers on the street, the city's once-ignored trash receptacles became goals in a city-wide game of trash basketball:
